Inspired by Standard Oil’s Founder Nelson Rockefeller’s vision of how to create an architecturally inspired commercial complex, the relocation of Imperial Oil’s headquarters to 111 St. Clair Avenue West in 1957 laid the framework for what would become Imperial Plaza, mid-town Toronto’s own ‘Rockefeller Centre’.

Designed and built to last centuries, at its completion Imperial Plaza was the largest all-welded steel frame building in the world.

The Grand Lobby

Entering from St. Clair Avenue one is immediately struck by Imperial Plaza’s grand lobby soaring over 35 feet with its rich material palette – walls of granite, marble and gold mosaic tiles, window casements in bronzed and polished aluminum. Engraving the history of Imperial Oil in the Plaza, York Wilson’s famous murals ‘The Story of Oil’, adorn the east and west sides of the interior walls. 1808: The Suite

The Suite’s layout was custom designed by the President of the Developer of Imperial Plaza. The two unit combination made it the only conforming 3 + 1 bedroom 3 bath corner Suite in the building – one of a kind.
